Medford, OR — A motorcyclist died early this morning following a high-speed crash on Interstate 5 north, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 10:53 a.m. on December 13, 2024, authorities responded to a report of a motorcycle crash involving a commercial vehicle at milepost 34. Witnesses and law enforcement say the rider had been traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before the collision.

A deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office had earlier attempted to pull over the motorcyclist after observing the dangerous driving behavior. According to the sheriff’s office, multiple witnesses had reported seeing the rider speeding and weaving recklessly through traffic. The deputy activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the motorcyclist but was unable to prevent the crash.

The motorcyclist crashed into a commercial motor vehicle at the indicated milepost, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but the rider was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, authorities said.

This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the risks associated with excessive speed and reckless driving. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.
