Rogue Valley Medford International Airport Eyes New Flight Route, Expands Service

Medford, OR – Rogue Valley Medford International Airport (MFR) is working toward enhancing its flight offerings in 2025, with a potential new route to Dallas-Fort Worth in the works. The airport, which serves southern Oregon, is currently in discussions with American Airlines regarding the possibility of launching a direct connection between Medford and Texas’ largest city.

The push for the new route is backed by significant financial support. Earlier reports revealed that Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley secured a $600,000 federal grant to help fund the expansion project. This grant is part of a broader strategy to improve MFR’s infrastructure and connectivity. In addition to this, the airport has already received $6 million in federal funding to extend taxiways and alleviate congestion, ensuring smoother operations as passenger demand grows.

While the proposed Dallas-Fort Worth route is still in the negotiation stage, MFR officials remain optimistic. Amber Judd, the airport’s director, confirmed that talks with American Airlines are ongoing. Judd noted that while the new route is not yet guaranteed, the airline has shown significant interest. “The grant gave us three years to establish the route, so it’s going to take some time. It could happen in 2025, but it could also happen in 2026,” Judd explained.

In the meantime, MFR is already preparing for increased flight traffic this year. Starting in May, the airport will add two additional daily flights between Medford and Portland in both directions. This expansion is expected to meet growing demand and provide more options for travelers within the region.

As MFR continues to build on its momentum, the potential Dallas-Fort Worth route represents a major step in the airport’s long-term growth strategy, with hopes of offering even more destinations for southern Oregon residents and visitors in the future.
