Klamath Falls, OR – A shooting on Friday afternoon in Klamath Falls left one man injured and led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 4:23 p.m. when Klamath County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Cannon Avenue and Fargo Street. According to investigators, 19-year-old Mario Zambrano was walking toward a nature trail near the Cedar Gardens Apartments on 4500 Cannon Street when he was shot at by an individual in a blue sedan.

Surveillance footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the shooting, which allowed deputies to quickly identify the suspect. The video showed the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Dominic Hernandez, firing at Zambrano.

Zambrano’s family rushed him to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had been shot in the abdomen. Doctors reported that the bullet had ricocheted off a rib, but fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Following the investigation, deputies located Hernandez near Division Street and Union Avenue, where he was arrested without incident. Hernandez has been charged with assault in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and recklessly endangering another person. He was booked into the Klamath County Jail.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident and has urged anyone with additional information to contact their office at (541) 883-5130.
