GRANTS PASS, Ore. – A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of 57-year-old Roy Harvey, who died after being repeatedly struck with a shovel in a violent attack last month. The arrest was made on Sunday, April 13, at the Robertson Bridge Boat Landing in Josephine County.

According to court documents, Harvey was discovered on March 4 along Rogue River Highway with severe head trauma. He was immediately transported to a medical facility but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on March 26. Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit quickly identified James Ross as the suspect in the case.

Ross, a Grants Pass resident, faces charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. His arrest, which was made without incident, marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into Harvey’s death.

Family members of the victim, including Roy Harvey’s sister, Laura Harvey, have spoken out about the loss. Laura Harvey shared personal photos of her brother with NewsWatch 12, describing the impact of the tragedy on their family.

The case continues to unfold, with Ross set to appear in court on April 21. Anyone seeking more information about the case is encouraged to contact the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation into Harvey’s death remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the fatal assault.
