Prosecutors said the 30-year-old mother, Ana, and the 38-year-old dad, Jessy, were both sentenced to 11 years in prison after they pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse (disregard for life). According to the court documents, their 2-year-old daughter reportedly died after she ingested fentanyl and tranquilizer.

Last year, deputies responded to the parent’s home and found the 2-year-old unresponsive. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, court records say. The responding deputies discovered that the child was living in terrible conditions. Ana and Jessy reportedly lived in a room in the home of Ana’s father, Timothy.

First responders reportedly told deputies that the child appeared to be dead for some time. The child’s crib was filled with cigarette butts, loose change, and blankets soaked in uri-e. The responding deputies also found multiple used syringes in the bedroom. They also found heroin, which was within the child’s reach.

The medical examiner told investigators that the 2-year-old girl reportedly died from drug and nicotine exposure. An autopsy reportedly revealed that the victim’s cause of death was acute combined fentanyl and Xylazine (tranquilizer that people use it as a cutting agent in heroin, per reports) overdose in addition to nicotine exposure. The victim’s grandfather was also charged with child abuse — disregard for life and will appear on court on Dec. 5, 2023.
