GRANTS PASS, Ore. – This Sunday, May 4, the vibrant culture of Lowriders will take center stage in Grants Pass as the community comes together for the second annual Lowrider gathering, set to begin at 9 a.m. The event, organized by R&B Events in partnership with Lupita’s Taqueria, is a celebration of custom cars, family-friendly entertainment, and the rich culture that has deep roots in Southern California but is now making waves in Southern Oregon.
The gathering, held at Lupita’s Taqueria located at 147 NE E Street, aims to highlight the Lowrider culture that has become a defining symbol of automotive artistry and community pride. Ron Burns, one of the event organizers, emphasized the importance of the gathering in shining a spotlight on both the Lowrider culture and the people in Southern Oregon who are passionate about it.
“Putting this together was important for us just to shine a light on the Lowrider culture and the community because there are people here in Southern Oregon that are a part of it,” Burns said.
The annual event has grown significantly since its inception. What started as a small gathering has quickly become a local favorite, with this year’s event expected to draw over 200 attendees, a significant increase from last year’s crowd. Burns is optimistic about the turnout, expressing his hopes that this year’s event will surpass expectations.
“The response we’re getting from advertising this year—I expect to double that amount, hopefully even triple,” Burns added.
Attendees can look forward to a day filled with food, music, and excitement. With food vendors on-site, a live DJ providing entertainment, and a thrilling $1,000 hopping contest for car enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The event has a special focus on family, offering free ice cream to both children and military members in attendance.
The event’s growth reflects the increasing enthusiasm for Lowrider culture in Southern Oregon, with many participants and visitors coming together to celebrate this unique art form and the tight-knit community it fosters.
As the Lowrider event continues to gain momentum, it’s clear that it has become more than just a car show—it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and community. This Sunday, the streets of Grants Pass will be filled with color, music, and custom cars, making it a must-see event for both car enthusiasts and families alike.
