Medford, OR – Firefighters from the Medford Fire Department participated in a community fundraising event on February 7 as they prepare to join the annual Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle, which benefits Blood Cancer United.

The Firefighter Stairclimb draws firefighters from around the world, who climb more than 1,300 steps while wearing full turnout gear. The event serves as a major fundraiser for Blood Cancer United, formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization dedicated to blood cancer research and patient support.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Medford firefighters hosted an event at Food-4-Less, located at 2230 Biddle Road. Community members had the opportunity to support the department’s team while contributing to the charitable cause. An additional fundraising event is scheduled for February 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Department representatives said the initiative allows firefighters to engage with the community while raising funds for an organization focused on supporting individuals and families affected by blood cancers. Firefighters expressed appreciation for the local support and enthusiasm about representing Medford at the Seattle event.

The Firefighter Stairclimb has become a longstanding tradition, highlighting both the physical demands of the profession and firefighters’ ongoing commitment to charitable efforts.
