CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – A man is dead following an apparent suicide after a brief standoff with law enforcement officers on Wednesday afternoon in Central Point. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) confirmed the incident, which occurred in the 6000 block of Table Rock Road.

Authorities say the suspect had been wanted on multiple charges, including 15 nationwide extraditable warrants for child sex abuse. The warrants stemmed from incidents in California, and law enforcement had been actively searching for the suspect prior to the standoff. The man was also facing charges related to domestic violence, including menacing, and unlawful use of a firearm.

The situation escalated Wednesday when officers attempted to arrest the suspect after learning of his whereabouts. At around 2 p.m., JCSO deputies and U.S. Marshals conducted a high-risk traffic stop near the intersection of Orr Drive and Table Rock Road. Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, leading to a brief pursuit and subsequent standoff.

During the standoff, police reported that the suspect died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect’s name has not been released, as officials are working to notify his next of kin. Oregon State Police are now leading the investigation into the incident, and further details will be released as the investigation continues.

The tragic event highlights the seriousness of the charges the suspect faced, as well as the danger posed by individuals wanted for such crimes. Authorities continue to urge caution in situations involving armed suspects.
