Central Point, OR – Firefighters from Fire District 3 responded to a structure fire on Eric Lane early Saturday morning, January 18. Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) received a 911 call reporting that a bedroom in a local home was on fire, with the source believed to be a wall outlet.

Engines 20, 21, and 22 from Fire District 3, along with Battalion Chief 3, were the first on the scene. They were quickly joined by Medford Fire Department’s Engine 14 and Battalion Chief 2. Crews worked swiftly to contain the fire to the bedroom, though significant smoke damage was reported in other areas of the house.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Fire District 3’s Fire Marshals. Preliminary information suggests that the fire may have originated from an electrical outlet, raising concerns about potential hazards related to electrical systems in homes.

The incident serves as a timely reminder of the risks posed by electrical fires, particularly those involving wall outlets, portable heaters, extension cords, and heat lamps. Fire officials are urging residents to take precautions, ensure their electrical systems are properly maintained, and avoid overloading outlets.

Fire District 3 and local authorities continue to investigate the incident, but at this time, they have not released further details about the exact cause of the blaze. Firefighters are reminding the community to remain vigilant about fire safety and take preventive measures to safeguard their homes.
