Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Increases Patrols for New Year’s Eve to Prevent Impaired Driving

Medford, OR – As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is preparing to ramp up efforts to ensure safe roads and prevent impaired driving. In a news release, Deputy Aaron Grissom highlighted the agency’s commitment to keeping the community safe during one of the busiest and most celebratory times of the year.

“New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration, but it’s crucial to remember the importance of responsible behavior,” Grissom said. “Impaired driving puts everyone on the road at risk. This saturation patrol demonstrates our commitment to keeping our community safe by aggressively targeting those who choose to drive under the influence.”

The Sheriff’s Office will be coordinating with several local agencies, including the Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Eagle Point Police Department, Ashland Police Department, Phoenix Police Department, and Talent Police Department, in a High-Visibility Enforcement Patrol. Officers will be looking for signs of impaired driving, such as erratic driving behavior, speeding, lane deviations, and other traffic violations.

Grissom urged residents to take extra precautions and plan ahead for a safe way to get home. “We encourage everyone celebrating New Year’s Eve to plan ahead for a safe ride home,” he said. “Designate a driver, use a ride-sharing service, or take a taxi. Making responsible choices can prevent tragedies and save lives.”

The JCSO reminds the public that even one drink can impair a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. They also encourage people to wear their seatbelts, ensure guests at their celebrations have a designated driver, and to call 911 if they spot a driver they suspect of being impaired.

With the heightened patrols and increased vigilance, authorities are aiming to minimize accidents and ensure a safer New Year’s Eve for all residents.
