According to the court documents, both defendants, 34-year-old Nancy and 33-year-old Juan, were sentenced to prison after they beat their friend’s daughter to death. Prosecutors said that the couple reportedly beat the 2-year-old girl to death while they were babysitting the child. Juan was sentenced to 29 years in prison and Nancy was sentenced to 8 years in prison for the killing of 2-year-old Valeria.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Juan and Nancy reportedly became angry after the 2-year-old child wetted her diaper and def-cation came out on the chair. Juan then hit the child multiple times, ultimately killing her. The 34-year-old woman was not home at the time of the fatal incident. Unfortunately, the woman didn’t call the authorities when she returned home. She reportedly lied to authorities about the fatal incident.

The fatal incident occurred in October 2021. Officers responded to Juan’s residence and found the unresponsive child. First responders attempted life-saving procedures on the 2-year-old girl. Unfortunately, the child was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The medical examiner told investigators that the child’s death was a homicide caused by traumatic brain injury and other internal injuries to the child’s body.

Judge Jason reportedly said: “In this case, I’m faced with the facts that a child less than 3 years old was beat to death while she was in the care of the two defendants. And when the defendants were confronted with that fact, Nancy chose Juan over this child. But they claimed that this was their child, that they loved this child, that this child called them mother and father. Yet when she died, they chose to lie.” Prosecutors also said that Nancy reportedly knew the victim’s mom since they were children, L&C reported.
