Medford, OR — A 25-year-old Medford man is in stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery following a violent, unprovoked stabbing at a residence on Beatty Street on December 26, 2024.
Medford Police responded to the scene shortly before 6 p.m., where they found the victim, severely injured and covered in blood, on the front porch of the home.
Officers quickly began administering first aid to control the bleeding until Medford Fire Department personnel and Mercy Flights arrived.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery and remains in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to the victim’s female roommate, who witnessed the attack, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Marzelle, entered the residence without warning.
The suspect allegedly retrieved a sword from a wall display and launched a brutal, unprovoked assault on the victim, striking him multiple times in the head, neck, and arms.
Afterward, the suspect attempted to attack the woman, but she was able to escape to another room, and the suspect fled the scene. The roommate provided officers with a description of the suspect, which led to a search of the area.
Medford Fire personnel reported seeing a person matching the description near Jackson and Biddle Roads. Officers quickly responded and, with assistance from bystanders, were able to locate the suspect at Riverside Avenue and 10th Street.
Marzelle was arrested without incident. During an interview with detectives, Marzelle admitted to the attack, stating that the assault was driven by a prior disagreement with the victim, who had informed him that he was no longer welcome at the residence.
MPD detectives have taken over the investigation.
The suspect remains in custody, and charges are pending.
