Medford Police Investigate Possible DUI Crash on West Main Street

Medford, Ore. – A high-speed crash involving a white pickup truck on West Main Street this morning has prompted an investigation by Medford Police, who are looking into the possibility of driving under the influence (DUI).

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Medford Police Department (MPD) received multiple reports of a reckless driver traveling at high speeds and driving head-on into oncoming traffic. Responding officers found the vehicle had crashed into a nearby tree, and the driver, identified as 30-year-old Austin Meyer of Medford, was seriously injured.

Meyer was immediately transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Despite the severity of the incident, authorities have not filed charges against him at this time due to complications with his medical treatment.

Witnesses reported alarming details about the crash, including Wendy Davis, who, along with her husband, helped administer Narcan to Meyer at the scene. “It’s a miracle that he didn’t hit anything else,” Davis said. “If it had been after nine, the parking lot would’ve had cars in it. It could’ve been much worse.”

Davis described seeing the truck speeding, estimating it was traveling at around 80 miles per hour. “The school zone was packed,” she said, noting that the area was especially busy at that time of day. “He was flying.”

The crash occurred before the school parking lot had filled with vehicles, which may have prevented additional damage or injury. However, the school zone being busy could have led to a very different situation if the truck had collided with other cars.

MPD officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. At this time, no formal charges have been made against Meyer, and the investigation remains ongoing.

More details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
