According to the police officials, the young mom, later identified as Jakayla, was taken into custody and later charged with capital murder after she reportedly threw her newborn baby inside a trash compactor in a dumpster. Police officials reportedly found the baby’s remains inside the trash. Police Chief Will released a statement, saying that the 18-year-old mother did not tell her friends or family about what really happened after she gave birth last month at her private home.

The newborn’s body was reportedly found after police searched an area landfill and located his remains. During an interview with investigators, the young mother reportedly said that she gave birth and then took the child to the Health Medical Center nearby. But, when her family learned that she was pregnant and had delivered a child, they became concerned for the baby and wanted to recover the newborn.

Health officials contacted the local police department after the mother arrived at the facility with a family member in tow claiming she was trying to recover a child she had given birth to and then had left with a red-headed employee earlier that month, police officials said. According to investigators, there was no evidence the 18-year-old mom ever went to the hospital. According to the police officials, the 18-year-old mother reportedly admitted to investigators that she did not want to be a mother at just 18 years old and that having a baby cost too much money.

Health officials reportedly said that if the newborn was taken to the hospital, staff would have accepted the baby, no questions asked. During an interview with investigators, the woman reportedly said that she wrapped her newborn in a blanket and placed him inside a dumpster at an apartment complex. When police found the baby’s remains, there wrapped in a mattress protector. The mattress protector was thrown inside a duffel bag secured with a zipper. It remains unclear whether prosecutors will pursue the death penalty against Jakayla.
