According to the police officials, the 24-year-old mother, Angel, and the 31-year-old father, Chevy, reportedly starved their baby to dead. Police officials took both parents into custody and later charged them with second-degree murder, neglect, and child abuse. According to police, the parents also neglected their 1-year-old son so severely, doctors were surprised how the child managed to survive.

Police officials said the 24-year-old mom called 911 and told the dispatcher that her 4-month-old baby daughter was not breathing. The responding deputies found the baby on a bed inside. During an interview with investigators, the mother reportedly said that she had her daughter down to sleep for the last hour. The responding deputies noticed that the baby was severely malnourished.

An autopsy report showed the baby suffered from malnutrition, dehydration and starvation. The mother and Chevy’s 1-year-old son also lived in the home. The boy was also severely neglected. Luckily, the boy found a way to eat and managed to survive. The trailer where the couple lived was a terrible scene, with signs of neglect piled up in front of the home where children’s toys were strewn about and mixed in with garbage and junk.

“I’ve seen wild animals take better care of their babies,” Sheriff Mike said during a press conference. Neither of the parents, who were abusing drugs, had expressed remorse and admitted to using drugs. Both admitted that they treated the children poorly and the father blamed everyone but himself. The baby’s father blamed the dealers who sold him his drugs, Sheriff Mike said, and the mother chalked up her neglect to not knowing she was passing out for hours at a time. The couple’s son is now in the custody of child protective services.
