    Portland Woman Arrested After Threatening Victims with Knife and Stealing Sleeping Bag

    Portland, OR — A 52-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday, December 7, 2024, after allegedly threatening two individuals with a knife and stealing a sleeping bag in the Lloyd District neighborhood.

    The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) responded to reports of a stabbing near North Williams Avenue and Northeast Multnomah Street at 10:59 a.m. Officers arrived on scene within four minutes but were unable to locate the reported victim, described as an adult male, who had fled the area prior to their arrival.

    While investigating the initial reports, officers were approached by two individuals who were camping nearby. The victims told police that they had been threatened by the same suspect who was believed to be involved in the earlier incident. According to the victims, the woman, later identified as Angelique Butler of Portland, brandished a large knife and demanded that they hand over their sleeping bag. Fearing for their safety, the victims complied.

    Police quickly launched a search of the area and located Butler a short time later. She was found in possession of the stolen sleeping bag and a large knife. Butler was arrested and taken into custody without further incident.

    She now faces multiple charges, including theft and unlawful use of a weapon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed whether Butler was involved in any previous criminal activity.

    This incident is the latest in a series of similar cases that have raised concerns about safety in the area, particularly for people experiencing homelessness. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
