Medford Police Department offers tips to prevent package theft during holiday season

Medford, OR – As the holiday season approaches and online shopping continues to rise, the Medford Police Department is reminding residents to take extra precautions to protect their packages from theft. With more packages being left on doorsteps and porches, thieves, often referred to as “porch pirates,” are on the lookout for easy targets.

To help deter these criminals, the police department recommends using package delivery services that provide secure drop-off options. Some services offer the ability to schedule deliveries for specific times or place packages in discreet, secure locations.

For those who may not be home to receive their packages, sending items to a workplace is another option that could keep deliveries safe. Additionally, asking a trusted neighbor to watch for deliveries can be a great way to prevent theft if you’re unable to be home.

Setting up delivery alerts is another useful tool. Many retailers and shipping companies offer real-time notifications when a package has been delivered, so you can quickly retrieve it and avoid leaving it unattended for long periods.

With these simple yet effective measures, residents can help ensure that their holiday shopping experiences remain worry-free and that packages are safe from theft. Happy shopping from the Medford Police Department!
