EAGLE POINT, Ore. — Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) are investigating a stabbing that took place Thursday morning, in what officials have described as a case of self-defense.

At approximately 8:31 a.m., ECSO 911 Dispatch received a report of a stabbing in the 2100 block of Rogue River Drive in Eagle Point. Deputies, along with responders from Jackson County Fire District 3 and Mercy Flights, rushed to the scene. A Mercy Flights ambulance transported the wounded suspect to a local hospital after deputies secured the area.

According to detectives, a commercial electrician was working in the area when an unknown man approached him and physically assaulted him. In what JCSO is calling an act of self-defense, the electrician reportedly fought off the attacker using a pocket knife, causing injuries to the assailant. No other individuals were involved in the incident.

The suspect, who was injured in the altercation, is currently in stable condition following surgery for superficial wounds. Authorities have confirmed that charges against the assault suspect are still under review by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have stated that the suspect’s name will be released once charges are filed.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
