JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – A Jacksonville man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly using Snapchat to attempt to lure a minor into a sexual encounter. Anthony Wheeler, 39, was taken into custody on March 26 following an undercover investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Wheeler has been charged with four offenses, including first-degree and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child, as well as two counts of luring a minor. He appeared in court for a pre-trial conference on Monday, April 14, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The investigation, which led to Wheeler’s arrest, was part of a broader effort by law enforcement to combat online crimes targeting children. Detectives have not disclosed specific details regarding the interactions between Wheeler and the minor, but the undercover operation successfully identified Wheeler as the suspect.

Currently being held at the Jackson County Jail, Wheeler’s bail has been set at $250,000. He is scheduled to return to court on May 12 for further proceedings.

The case highlights the growing concern over the use of social media platforms, such as Snapchat, for criminal activities, particularly in the context of online child exploitation. Authorities have urged parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children’s online activity to help prevent similar incidents from occurring.

As the legal process unfolds, both the community and law enforcement remain focused on ensuring that justice is served in this case.
