JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – A man wanted on 15 warrants for serious sex abuse charges in California died by apparent suicide following a standoff with law enforcement officers on Wednesday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

The incident began when officers from JCSO, alongside members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, attempted to carry out a high-risk traffic stop. The suspect briefly fled the scene before law enforcement was able to engage in a standoff. After an extended confrontation, the suspect was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect’s identity has not been released by authorities, but JCSO confirmed that he faced multiple felony charges in California, including 10 counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, and five counts of oral copulation with a child under 14. Additional charges, including domestic violence, menacing, and unlawful use of a firearm, were filed in Oregon as of March 16, 2025.

The standoff took place on Table Rock Road, located between Gibbon Road and Wilson Road, causing temporary road closures in the area. The road was reopened to traffic shortly after 5 p.m. once the situation was resolved.

This tragic end to the standoff follows a months-long search for the suspect, who was considered a high-risk individual due to the nature of the charges against him. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has not provided further details regarding the investigation, but the case remains under review.

Officials have expressed their sympathies to the victims and families affected by the suspect’s alleged crimes. The sheriff’s office also thanked all law enforcement officers involved in the operation for their professionalism during the tense situation.
