CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – A school bus accident occurred this morning on Richey Road near West Gregory Road in rural Central Point. The incident, reported at approximately 7:50 a.m., involved deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and firefighters from Jackson County Fire District 3.

According to the JCSO, one student sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital in Medford for treatment. No other injuries were reported among the bus’s occupants, who were primarily children on their way to school.

Preliminary investigations suggest that dense fog and icy road conditions contributed to the accident. While authorities have not released further details regarding the specific circumstances of the crash, they emphasized that winter weather played a significant role in the incident.

Local officials are urging residents to take extra precautions when driving in winter conditions. The combination of reduced visibility from dense fog and slick, icy roads increases the risk of accidents. Drivers are advised to reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, and remain vigilant while navigating adverse weather conditions.

The JCSO and fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
