Medford, Ore. – The Applegate Valley Fire District (AVFD) has proudly announced the acquisition of a “new-to-them” Type 3 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) engine, bolstering their firefighting capabilities for future emergencies.
The purchase was made possible through the efforts of the Friends of the Applegate Fire District, a local organization dedicated to supporting the fire department. The fire engine, which was previously owned by Ashland Fire & Rescue, recently returned from a deployment to the Los Angeles wildfires.
The addition of this engine represents a significant upgrade for the district, which serves a rural area vulnerable to wildfires. The Type 3 engine is specially designed to tackle wildland fires, making it an ideal fit for the district’s needs in protecting both forested areas and residential communities from fire threats.
Over the next few months, the AVFD team will be focused on tuning up the engine and making any necessary adjustments to ensure it is fully operational. Firefighters will conduct thorough inspections and maintenance to prepare it for use in future fire seasons.
“This is a big win for our community,” said a spokesperson for the Applegate Valley Fire District. “Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Applegate Fire District, we now have an additional resource that will significantly enhance our firefighting capabilities, especially in the event of wildfires.”
The district continues to focus on preparedness for the upcoming fire season, and this new engine will undoubtedly help ensure that they are ready to respond quickly and effectively when emergencies arise.
Residents of the Applegate Valley can rest assured knowing their fire department is better equipped than ever to handle the challenges that come with wildfire season. The community’s support through fundraising efforts plays a key role in ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the public.
