Medford, OR – The deadline to apply for the 2025 Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Citizen Academy is fast approaching, offering a unique opportunity for community members to learn about law enforcement firsthand. The 11-week course will cover a variety of topics, including criminal investigations, prosecution of cases, general administration of police services, and specialized programs such as SWAT and K-9 units.

Classes will take place on Wednesday nights, beginning on January 8 and running through March 19, 2025. The program is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the operations and challenges faced by local law enforcement officers, giving participants a chance to engage with police personnel and learn about the intricacies of law enforcement.

Interested individuals must submit their applications by 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 30. With class size limited to just 30 participants, the MPD advises applicants to submit their materials early, as spaces are expected to fill quickly.

This program provides a rare chance for citizens to gain insight into police work, from the basics of law enforcement philosophy to the technical aspects of high-risk operations. The Citizen Academy aims to foster a better relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve, promoting greater understanding and trust.

Applications can be submitted through the MPD’s official website, where further details about the program and selection criteria are also available.
