EAGLE POINT, Ore. — Jim Hamilton, the Chief of Police for the Eagle Point Police Department (EPPD), was recently named Police Chief of the Year by the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police (OACP) at the organization’s annual conference in Pendleton.

Hamilton’s nomination for the prestigious award came through strong recommendations from department and city staff, as well as numerous letters of support from members of the local community. The city of Eagle Point expressed its pride in Hamilton’s achievements, noting that he has demonstrated exemplary leadership since taking the helm of the EPPD.

“Chief Hamilton is innovative, collaborative, and a tremendous resource for the City of Eagle Point,” the city wrote in a press release following the announcement. “He has shown outstanding leadership not only within his own department but also in fostering strong relationships with other community members and law enforcement professionals.”

Hamilton has only been serving as Eagle Point’s chief since June 2023, but his extensive experience in law enforcement has already made a significant impact. Prior to his appointment, Hamilton spent over a decade with the Grants Pass Police Department, where he gained a wealth of experience working in the Rogue Valley. His time there, along with his proactive approach to policing, has clearly earned him the respect of both his colleagues and the community he now serves.

The OACP’s recognition of Hamilton comes at a time when the role of law enforcement leaders is more important than ever, and Hamilton’s ability to lead through collaboration and innovation has set a high standard for his peers. His contributions to public safety and his dedication to building stronger community connections reflect the core values of the Eagle Point Police Department.

With Hamilton at the helm, Eagle Point residents can look forward to continued growth and positive changes in the local law enforcement landscape.
