Medford, OR — A 31-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of local resident Tim Ayers, who was found dead in his Klamath Falls home this past summer.

Steven Villanpando was indicted Thursday by a grand jury following a thorough investigation conducted by the Klamath Falls Police Department. Villanpando faces several charges in addition to first-degree murder, including first-degree burglary, first-degree theft, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The investigation began on the morning of August 8, when officers responded to a welfare check at 3201 Quarry Street after receiving a report that Ayers had been shot. Upon arriving at the residence, police confirmed that Ayers had died from gunshot wounds.

According to police, Villanpando was identified as a suspect through witness testimony and evidence collected during the investigation. The grand jury heard the testimony of officers and witnesses before issuing the indictment.

The case has shocked the community, as Ayers, a longtime resident of Klamath Falls, was well known to local residents. Authorities have not yet released specific details about the motive behind the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with further information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Klamath Falls Police Department at 541-883-5336 or to leave an anonymous tip at 541-883-5334.

Villanpando’s arrest marks a significant development in the case, but it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold in the coming months.
