    Medford Community Celebrates Christmas with Annual Outreach Event

    Medford, OR — For over two decades, the St. Vincent de Paul organization has brought holiday cheer to the Medford community with its annual Christmas Day outreach event. This year, the tradition continued with a festive celebration that included a free meal and gift-giving, bringing together people of all ages to enjoy the spirit of the season.

    El Molcajete, a popular local restaurant, contributed to the holiday feast, marking its eighth year of supplying the meal. The restaurant’s involvement has become a staple of the event, providing attendees with a hearty Christmas spread.

    Wayne Trefren, a longtime organizer of the event, has been overseeing the distribution of gifts for the past ten years, alongside his wife. Trefren spoke about the rewarding nature of the event, noting that it has become a beloved tradition for them and their volunteers. “Nobody should be alone on Christmas Day,” Trefren said. “It’s about giving back, donating some time of our lives to help others.”

    This year, around 400 gifts were given out to attendees, with items ranging from warm clothing to sleeping bags and blankets. Trefren explained that the most commonly requested gifts are items that offer comfort and warmth during the cold winter months. The gifts come from various community sources, including St. Vincent de Paul, St. Mary’s, and the giving tree at Sacred Heart Church.

    The event serves as a reminder of the importance of community and generosity during the holiday season. Trefren’s efforts, supported by volunteers and donors, help ensure that no one in Medford has to face the holiday alone or without basic necessities.
