LAKEVIEW, Ore. — A single-engine aircraft veered off course and crashed Monday afternoon near Lake County Airport, leaving both occupants with minor injuries, authorities said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) received a report of the accident around 1:34 p.m. on April 28. According to investigators, the plane was preparing to land on Runway 35 when it went off the runway and came to rest on the opposite side in a ditch located east of the runway.
Emergency responders from several local agencies were quickly on the scene, including the Lake Health District EMS, the Lakeview Fire Department, and the Thomas Creek-Westside Rural Fire Protection District. The two individuals onboard the plane were taken to Lake District Hospital for treatment. Authorities said both suffered minor injuries but did not release further details on their condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Local law enforcement, along with the Oregon State Police, also assisted at the scene.
While the investigation is ongoing, officials have not yet released the identity of the occupants or provided additional information about the aircraft involved.
This is the second aviation incident in the region this year, but no fatalities have been reported. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and work with federal agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
As of the latest update, operations at the airport have returned to normal, and there are no further safety concerns, authorities said.
