ROGUE RIVER, Ore. – A suspect wanted for attempted murder in Los Angeles County, California, was apprehended earlier this month in Rogue River after evading authorities for more than a year.
Darryl Sears, 36, was arrested on February 16, 2025, during a routine traffic stop by the Rogue River Police Department. The arrest stems from a hit-and-run incident that occurred on July 12, 2023, which left a victim with severe injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators believe the crash was a deliberate act, with Sears intentionally striking the victim and leaving them to die.
The incident prompted an immediate search for Sears, and a warrant for attempted murder was issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office shortly after the crash. Despite extensive efforts to locate him, Sears remained at large, with authorities unable to determine his whereabouts for over a year.
On the day of his arrest, Sears was stopped by police while driving in Rogue River. Following the stop, officers took him into custody without incident. Sears was later extradited to CHP custody and booked at the San Dimas County Sheriff’s Office, where he will face charges related to the hit-and-run and attempted murder.
Sears’ arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the July 2023 hit-and-run, bringing closure to a case that had remained unsolved for over a year. Authorities praised the efforts of local law enforcement in tracking down the fugitive, whose capture was a major step forward in the pursuit of justice for the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
